San Francisco, California, USA
Driven by an industrial development required by the city to provide a public open space, the proposal converts an abandoned WW II Navy shipyard into a new waterfront part. The site features remnant industrial artefacts including the two 100 foot tall cranes and the boat launch superstructure. The design offers access to the waters of the San Francisco bay for the surrounding neighbourhood. Boat launches, wetland restoration, and terraces step down to the water allowing visitors to interact with the bay shore. An outdoor cafe and small cinema activate the sate and extend the functions of the art centre out into the park.
